Does car shampoo work?
Car shampoo is a popular car cleaning product. Most people have a bottle of car shampoo lying around, which is great because it’s a basic product.
Car shampoo is an easy-to-use product that delivers great results and can save you money and time when used correctly.
Whether you wash your car every week, are in the auto detailing business, or just wash your car when needed, car shampoo is a great product.
What is car shampoo used for?
For some cars with a light layer of dirt, a car shampoo is the perfect cleaning solution. However, heavily soiled cars require a stronger solution or perhaps even multiple steps to remove dirt and grime.
Car shampoo is used to remove residual dirt from your car.
While the previous steps, which involve using an all-purpose cleaner and a snow foam pre-wash, are designed to remove heavy dirt without it coming into contact with the car.
This reduces the risk of scratches on your paint.
When should I start using car shampoo?
In our six detailing steps, shampooing is the third part of our second step, the “wash step”. This phase is commonly referred to as “safe contact washing” or the 2-bucket method.
To do this, you need to put your car shampoo in a bucket, add water and then clean your car with a wash mitt (recommended) or a sponge.
The steps before washing
1. Make sure your tools and cleaning supplies are clean and in good condition.
There is nothing worse than using dirty or damaged tool to clean. It just doesn’t make sense because you wouldn’t clean your clothes with a stain remover.
Many people tend to use the same tools over and over again to clean their cars, which is okay because our AD tools are designed for multiple purposes.
However, this is only okay if you clean your products between uses.
Leaving tools in your garage between washes can damage your paint the next time you wash your car.
Towels and rags can collect dirt and the next time they are used, they will spread this dirt and dust all over your car.
We always encourage people to carefully clean and store their microfiber cloths and other cloths that they use to clean, dry or polish their car.

2. Pre-wash the car
To maximize the functions and cleaning properties of your car shampoo, a pre-wash is an important step.
While a car shampoo is good for removing a thin layer of dirt, you won’t get the results you want if your car has more than this “thin layer”.
It increases the use of your car shampoo and improves the appearance of a freshly washed car.
A pre-wash removes heavy dirt without even having to touch your car. Snow foam is applied with a pressure washer and leaves a thick layer of foam covering the vehicle.
After letting the product work, simply wash it off. Your car is then ready for the shampoo phase, where the remaining dirt can be safely removed.
By cleaning the vehicle in advance, there is less risk of the car getting scratches from loose particles on the paint and a layer of dirt has already been removed.
This means that the car shampoo can remove any dirt/traffic film that is stuck, leaving a cleaner and nicer finish.
3. Invest in 2 buckets
We strongly recommend using 2 buckets when applying car shampoo to your car.
This way you can fill your glove with “shampoo solution”, wash your car and rinse the dirt the glove picks up with clean water. This ensures that you don’t rub dirt and grime back into the car’s paintwork.
The pH value of your car shampoo
The pH of a car shampoo refers to the acid or alkali content of a product .
An acidic or alkaline shampoo has a stronger formula and contains chemicals that remove heavy dirt and grime. However, we at AD always recommend a pH-neutral shampoo for car washing.
This prevents existing paint protection from being removed or damaged. Instead, using a pre-wash foam before the shampooing phase can effectively remove heavy dirt.
Foaming car shampoos
Some are very foamy and produce a lot of foam. While some are more subdued and don’t produce much foam.
Shampoos with less suds usually have additional properties such as ceramic protectors or drying agents, which have lower sudsing ability but leave a water-repellent or covering effect.
This causes the water to run off the paint. Whatever you choose is a personal decision.
Car shampoo with added wax
There are a number of car shampoos on the market that contain added wax.
While these seem like a great time-saving product so you don’t have to worry about waxing, the wax added later doesn’t actually provide any long-term benefits.
We advise against using car shampoo with added wax as this can affect the washing function of the shampoo.
In addition, they are not long-lasting and do not offer the same protection as a wax that is applied later. Instead, we recommend using a regular car shampoo and then applying a wax.
How often should you wash your car?
The answer to this question depends entirely on how often you drive your car, what roads you drive your car on, what time of year, etc.
We recommend that you wash your car regularly enough to prevent stubborn dirt and debris from getting on your car Car staying behind the car for a long time.
